Ergo-Rehab Services

Ergo-Rehab offers a wide array of individualized comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation programs designed to enable patients to rapidly return to a full and rewarding lifestyle. Physical therapists are experts at treating movement and neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. Pain often accompanies a movement disorder, and physical therapists can help correct the disorder and relieve the pain.

Physical therapy is dedicated to treating, healing and preventing injuries and disabilities. Therapists work individually with patients to help: reduce pain, restore strength and function, regain motion, prevent injury and restore preoperative function. Often An important role of Physical Therapists is to also educate patients on self-care and prevention.

Ergo-Rehab offers a wide range of services, including:

Physical Therapy

All programs begin with a comprehensive evaluation of the injury and its impact on the neuromuscular and muscular skeletal system, followed by a discussion of therapy options, timeline, recovery goals and initiation of treatment. Based on this evaluation, a combination of the following therapies may be used during the rehabilitation process:

Therapeutic exercises
Therapeutic aquatic exercises
Manual therapeutic techniques
Joint mobilization
Soft tissue mobilization/massage
Neuromuscular re-education
Strength and conditioning
Neck and back education program
Gait training

Biofeedback stress reduction
Posture education
Lumbar stabilization
Sport specific training
Biomechanical assessment
Orthotic evaluation
Stretching exercises
Strengthening exercises
Home therapy/self therapy education

Evaluation Techniques include:

Range of Motion (ROM): The therapist will move the joint(s) to check for the quality of movement and any restrictions.

Palpation: Touching around the area of the pain/problem. This is done to check for the presence of tenderness, swelling, soft tissue integrity, tissue temperature, inflammation, etc.

Muscle Testing: The therapist may check for strength and the quality of the muscle contraction. Pain and weakness may be noted. Often the muscle strength is graded.

Neurological Screening: The therapist may check to see how the nerves are communicating with the muscles, sensing touch, pain, vibration, or temperature. Reflexes may be assessed as well.

Posture Assessment: The positions of joints relative to ideal and each other may be assessed.

Sports Medicine

Although we treat Sports Injuries at both clinic locations, our clinic at 2675 Stevenson has emphasized Sports Physical Therapy since 1999, treating hundred of professional and amateur athletes with a variety of sports injuries.

Ergo-Rehab's Sports Medicine Program is aimed at injury prevention, education, and rehabilitation of injuries for athletes of all skill levels from the professional athlete to the weekend athlete. Each program is tailored to the individual with attention being given to returning the athlete to activity as quickly and safely as possible following an injury.

Hand/Upper Extremity Rehabilitation

Hand/upper extremity therapy is a one-on-one intensive rehab program which includes an extensive evaluation and treatment, from acute or chronic problems to common hand pathologies or injuries. We customize therapeutic aids and equipment in-house to assist in the immediate needs of our patients and their treatment programs.

Evaluations may include: Range of motion function, Grip and pinch strength; manual muscle testing, Pain, Edema, Activities of Daily Living Function with treatments including: Ergonomics, Custom fabricated splints - dynamic/static, sensory re-education/desensitization techniques, sterile wound care and scar care and patient education, including: postural awareness and healthy body mechanics, edema control and psychological support.

Our hand therapists have had extensive training and experience in this specialized field and can begin therapy at a very early stage in a severely acute injury — as early as one day following surgery. This early therapy involvement can make a critical difference in the patient's recovery process in in regaining full use of the injured hand and/or upper extremity. Our team approach with the referring physician emphasizes communication with the referring M.D., through reports and continuous re-evaluation of the patient's progress throughout the therapy program.

Aquatic Physical Therapy

Aquatic therapy takes advantage of the physical properties of water to assist with the rehabilitative process. Buoyancy, turbulence, hydrostatic pressure, and thermal properties of water can assist with the rehabilitation of a patient. Those suffering from chronic pain, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, lumbar surgery, or with a limited weight-bearing status are just a few of the many different patient populations that can benefit from aquatic therapy. Our location at 2675 Stevenson specializes in aquatic therapy.

Work Conditioning & Vocational Services

Work Hardening & Conditioning
These services are designed to build the individual's strength and stamina in order to increase the feasibility of competitive employment. This is a progressive program that allows the person to be involved in work related activity and/or exercise as soon as possible after injury, thus avoiding long periods of inactivity and the resulting decline of physical and motivational status.

The three major focuses of Work Hardening are: Education, Conditioning and Work Simulation. This program is customized as required to meet the individual needs of the patient/client and referring agent.

Work Capacity Evaluations
These evaluations provide a broad overview of an individual's achievement, temperament, work characteristics, and physical abilities. Through various modalities including psychometric tests, work simulation, dexterity tests, interest inventories, and work samples, a realistic assessment is obtained. It also provides an individual the opportunity to explore their own capabilities in a supportive environment and thus determine appropriate vocational direction and readiness to return to work.

Work Tolerance Screening
Work Tolerance Screening is an assessment program designed to measure physical capabilities and limitation that aid in determining the level of readiness to return to work. This process measures the individual's ability to meet the critical demands of work through the use of standardized tests and simulated work tasks. Areas of assessment include: strength, carrying, handling, endurance, pushing, fingering, sitting, pulling, feeling, standing, climbing, stooping, walking, balance, kneeling, lifting, reaching and crawling.
